Junkyard axle questions.

I have found an 8.8 out of a 2002 explorer "Sport Trac" fourdoor truck. it has 4.10 gears. Is this the same one thats in the explorers? Is it a good one for a swap? Also found 2 different 8.5's on 4cy. XJ's. a 1995 with ID tags that say 85 or 35 and 1005. trying to found out if it has 4.10 gears in it. The other 8.5 has 1 tag on it that says 2752. again trying to find out what gears are in them. I have the VIN numbers and wounder if the stealership could tell me if no one knows. thanks in advanced.

the dealership will tell you but they are going to steer you away from using them they will tell you the gears could have been changed, thats what theyve been doing to me

I think they would tell us that to scare us into buying new gears from them. So the sport trac 8.8 is the same width as the regular explorer.

umm i do believe so but could be wrong so im not gonna give you a full yes because i dont want you to get screwed over

they tell you that so you will buy the entire axle from them . and im 98.9 percent sure that they are the same width my buddy has a sport trac and i think he got a doner axle from an explorer

Ok, hopefully 1 of those 8.5's have 4.10's If not I think I'll get the 8.8. the jy is asking 450.00 for it. Just not sure if thats a good price for it. I can get a 8.8 from another jy for 250.00 but it has 3.73 in it. but I'd rather have the gears already done.

450 sounds a little high

Thats what I was thinking, but it is the only axle that I have found with 4.10s. the JY wants 250.00 for the XJ axles. Hopefully one of them has the 4.10s

The 4cyl. XJ came with 4.10 gears from what I gather.

I know they did for either '87 or '89 with a tow package. Just not sure with the '95 I found. It does have a tow hitch, But I dont know if its factory installed. I was not able to figure what year model the other one was.

all 4cylender xjs came with 4.10's and i think 250 is fairly chaep. i would spring on that tomorrow morning! and grab the front axle ring/pinion/ carrier!

also i think the sport trac is just a transer cse. like jeeps command trac! i think thats all it is!

250 is high IMO my local JY want around 100 for a complete rear.

Good to Know, but Sadly both of those 4bangers are 2wd. and they are closed on sunday. Gunna be a Mechanic Monday at the Junkyard though.
