Default Jerking While deccelerating

Sorry if this has been posted already, new here. I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee and when I am driving at slow speeds or slowing down the jeep lurches and bucks until I either speed up or completely take my foot off the gas. I was thinking it may be the Throttle position sensor needs replaced, but thought I would get some input from the forums.

Thanks

That thinking you're doing is good. TPS is definitely a suspect.

But before you go throwing parts at it, hook up a code reader and see if it has any stored codes. Do you have a check engine light on?

Agreed.

My 95 did the same thing to me and it was the tps. It also wouldn't kick down and when I hit 55 almost on the dot it would throw a cel and a temper tantrum. Can't hurt to hook the scanner up to it.. But like 96sport said it's most likely the tps.

Thanks for replying so I could do some work to it this weekend. I will try hooking up a scanner, however the person that had the Jeep before me messed a lot of things up so the check engine light could be anything in my opinion. They re-wired the entire lighting system, power windows (which do not work anymore) and the ignition. Thanks for the advise and help.

Well when you pull the codes, it'll tell you exactly what the check engine light is for.
