Default Jeep will stall in extreme cold weather...

When the temperature gets below 20* F it doesn't want to stay running. It will turn over just fine but will stall out if I don't give it some gas. sometimes I can even drive it a bit before it will stall on me. If the temperature outside is over 20F the Jeep runs great. any ideas?

uhh im pretty sure most jeeps were made with a plug in the engine bay that you connect a wire with a wall plug on it that will heat your engine somehow....not sure how it works but i have seen several jeeps with a wall plugin hanging from the grill lol

uuh dont think so....4.0 I6 Do not come with a Block heater......gas motors dont need them. they are not a compression ignition Engine.

If you saw cords at a grill of a XJ it may have been a diesel Xj...imported from over seas.

well the '01 XJ deffinitely does come with an engine block heater cuz i have one, never used it so its all corroded now but mine deffinitely has one and its stock, i live in canada so maybe its a regional option or something, lots of cars up here have block heaters and some parking lots have outlets in front of the parking spaces to plug it in

errr thats not the only reason for a block heater first of all, and second, mine has one and many xj's have one installed but most ppl dont have the cord to hook them up

I'm not sure it's related to the engine being warmed up. this occurs even when the engine is at 190* and I have been driving for 15 - 20 minutes at times. but only when the temp is below 20*F. could it be my fuel injectors? it seems like it is related to not getting fuel and wants to stall.

x2. XJs do have a block heater. It replaces a freeze plug on the engine. It heats your coolant up and keeps it warm. Thats great for sub zero temperatures. I have never "needed" mine but it is nice if i think about it cuz it will hold your coolant temp around 130 degrees and its nice to have a warm jeep right away. Some jeeps sold in southern states did not have them-just like anything else. If i remember right my 1989 MJ from florida did not have one. My jeep always starts great in the cold. Lowest air temp its started at w/o being plugged in is 52 below zero.

Ive seen hundreds of jeeps in the Junkyards and have yet to see one....

its prob more for a comfort thing...gas motors (fuel injected) really dont need them....however diesel is a different story.......

Battery....wrap your battery in some foam for something to insulate it...problem should be solved.

Some brand batterys do not do well in the cold, even it they are brand new. CCA regardless. Duralast seems to be the worst. And Interstates seem to be the best when comes to the cold.

Im a parts sales man and I sell Deka batteries, and they aren't as good as Interstates but much better than Duralast.

Sorry for rambling....I don't know why I memorize this crap!
