Default Jeep turning over but not starting

My '87 XJ 4.0 L is turning over fine and it has fired a couple times, but not starting. I've had it for a few months, and it had been starting slow, so after about 3 seconds. I think I can hear the fuel pump making noise when I put the key to 'on', but it sounds a little haggard. Is this likely the problem?

If the fuel pump is working and fuel is being delivered, then it could be the CPS (crank position sensor). Check to make sure the bolts on the CPS are tight. You can also perform a multimeter test on it to see if it's bad.
