Not yet, I compared my timing to my buddy's jeep and my distributer is pointed in the same spot so I'm now working on getting at the timing chain and checking to see if thats timed with the crank properly. The engine I swapped in had just over 200k miles so the timing chain might be loose and jumped a few gears.

take the spark plug out closest to the radiator have someone turn the motor over with a socket on the crank pully nut while you hold your finger over the hole where spak plug was taken out when you feel air pushing you finger out of the hole hold a screw drive in the hole keep tu rning the motor over slowly the screw driverwill be sitting on top of the pistion it will rise up as the motor is turned when it stops coming up that is top deaqd center on compression stroke then take of dist cap and make sure the spark plug wire you have off of no1 cyl the on you took off to remove plug is where the rotor is pointing then place the remaning wires going clock wise to the correct cyl with the same number going clock wise as the firing order i posted here earlier when done install the plug back the firing order is correct good luck

dude, I've tried messing with the timing time and again with no resolve, if I set the timing like you say the engine runs like crap, wont idle or rev. I'm starting to think its computer related, can you think of any sensors that adjust timing or the amount of fuel injected that would cause a problem like mine?

when I adapted the renix tps I cut a slot in the post so that it would spin with the ho throttle body, I never attached the ho tps to the renix system since I know it doesn't work the same way.

so do you mean it backfires when you completely let off the throttle at highway speeds? When engine braking does it backfire as well? Also have you messed at all with the throttle position sensor? I can send you the part of the FSM that deals with ignition if you were interested.
