Well my Jeep stutters and dies (again) after dying it will fire right back up
this mostly happens at idle, and is more likely after the vehicle is idling in place for several minutes... It will sometimes, though rarely happen when the vehicle is driving down the road...
from time to time the Jeep will 'skip a beat' on the highway...
if it dies it tends to just fire right back up but might die again only moments later
when it dies it will stutter really bad right before dying.
It really did not do this until the weather got cold
sometimes it runs like a bat out of hell
-Wires are nearly new
-plugs have maybe 350 miles on them (NOT 350,000, lol)
UPDATE: the spark coming out of the distibutor is purple to blue so that should be plenty strong...
jiggling the wiring for the coil does not effect the operation

I would check the wiring going to the coil first.

checked and updated the original post

seems unlikely, but either way it did not start when I did the wires...Originally Posted by Turbo X_J
Did it do this before you changed the plug wires? Maybe the coil wire/terminals are defective.
well it might be spark related, used an old spark plug, welded aligator clips to it and attached it to one of the plug wires, also made the gap huge
the outside of the ark is blue, BUT the center of the ark is closer to orange... SO it might be the coil

my jeep idles rough too. but it hasn't died. i would look into your idle air control valve. on the straight 6 it is located to the right of the engine close to the fuel injector rail. hope this help! Originally Posted by ericfx1984

I had the same exact problem but it was the fuel pump. It stored no codes. Are you sure the code you pulled wasnt old? Have you watched fuel pressure at the rail when it starts to act up
well none of that matters, no it will not start at all...
the codes are not old, I cleared them yesterday and they came right back only minutes later

getting fuel.... I just hooked up my backup coil and the Jeep fired right up... bad news is the coil is cracked, I am going to pick up a Ford coil (way cheaper and well built) and hook that up
