Default The jeep question thread!

Aliright guys, I love my jeep but I'm new to a lot of the things of the wonderful world of off road so I was wondering if some of you guys could help out? Maybe if anyone else has questions they can post to?
Well my questions are:
What is the point of removing the sway bar?
What are lockers?
What are the point of quick disconnects?
How to trim the fenders for more clearence?
Is the piece if flare inside the wheel well really protecting anything?
And where are the cheapest off road rims to buy?
Thanks guys! Just trying to get more into the jeep community!

Removing the sway bars help flex better
A locker locks the rear (or front) end allowing both tires to spin at one time
Disonnects (discos) allow u to disconnect the sway bar and re connect it easily and fast
The cheapest rims would be regular d-window steelies or cragar soft 8's

These are the answers I kno hope it helps

What are lockers?
With an open differential the axle shafts and wheels on an axle can spin at different speeds. Typically the tire with the least resistance is going to get the torque from the driveshaft. A locker physically locks the two axle shafts together splitting the torque between the wheels and spinning the wheels at the same speed.

Not sure
And where are the cheapest off road rims to buy?
A lot of people find Soft 8's or something similar fairly inexpensive (~$50 ea) to buy. Look at summit racing or jegs as they typically have pretty low prices on nice steel wheels.

plastic can ony "protect" the widow washing resivoir on drivers side... i took mine off immediatly. they will fill with mud and fall down while wheeling anyways. might as well take em off now.

craigslist is a good place to find cheap rims. also jegs.

i suggest a 15x10 but a 15x8 will do. (for weekend warrior rigs) and i also suggest you find em with a backspacing of 4.5, helps with stabiliy and rubb issues. 12.50s(wide) can then be used with no problems!

I would just throw another opinion out there.

The plastic piece can be useful if your rig wont see much mud. If you have one in good condition it can definitely keep grime out of your suspension parts. If you have them you might as well keep them until they fall out.
