Jeep newbie, what to look out for.
New to the forum so Hi from the UK.
I'm looking for another 4x4 and am after a Cherokee 2.5 TD this time, probably at least 10 years old.
Question is, what general problem areas are there to look out for on Cherokees and the Diesel engines for Jeeps of this era?

rust. maybe someone from overthere will chip in with other things... hard for americans to say cuz we never had diesels in our cherokee besides the couple year stint in the 80s with the Renault diesel engine.

Thanks for the replies. I thought rust might be an issue, but you both mention it so it must be really that bad.
When you say floorboards, do you mean under the carpets or on the underside of the vehicle?
I had a look at one today as it happens and there didn't seem to be that much rust apart from on the roof around the gutter and a small spot on the door step. There was lots of oil though, all under the engine and the diffs. The rear suspension leaves were sagging badly, so bad they were actually curving the wrong way. I didn't go for it, as there were lots of other knocks and whines. Bit tatty overall.
