Try replaceing the fuel filter. Could be plugging up. I had a dodge shadow that did that, it was the fuel filter.

gonna add that the coil is good

next steps are fuel pressure test and compression test

OKAY

narrowed down my issue here

fuel pressure is at 38 running

stock calls for 49 + or - 5 psi

so its a fuel delivery issue

is it safe to say it's my fuel pump or are there a couple more things i could be checking

can't be the regulator as that would give me too much pressure correct?

i thought it was 39psi with the regulator vacuum line connected... and 49 with it disconnected? ill look that up again... other wise.. fuel strainer... in the tank... pinched line... clogged line... bout it... this test with vacuum and without vacuum will also tell you if your regulator is bad...

well thats good! weird but good! lol... strainer must have been clogged up or the pump was... pumps either work or dont work... and most of the time they fail after its been shutoff not just going down the road or something... had to be a clog in there somewhere...

yes it is a ballast resistor but its for the fuel pump on the Cherokee
on start up it bypassed then switches over and runs the pump on lower voltage
if your pump is getting week you can bypass it to run it full speed
its a way to see if the pump is going bad cus you will gain power back

well so much for that LOL

jeep ran fine, filled the tank with gas

and about 10 miles later i threw 3 rods in the motor, cracked the block fuel line by the firewall ruptured, fuel sprayed all over the header, jeep caught on fire, melted the main wiring harness.
