Default Jeep longevity

I have an '01 Cherokee Sport (4.0 liter I6 of course) and it has 148 K miles. I would like to know if there were any tips to extend its life.

Preventative maintenance is key to keeping anything mechanical working reliably. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" does not apply to vehicles.

Keep the fluids clean, grease what can be greased, and don't forget to rev it up past 3,200 RPM now and again. :-) Mostly its just shocks and batteries. On mine ball joints got changed at 290,000 and the rest of the steering and suspension at 320,000. Should be good for another good while. :-)

^^The above is the best advise you will get. A well maintained vehicle will run for a long time.

Ya I see a lot of people posting stuff on this forum about how they will not buy a XJ that has over 150k like its going to die on them of something or what not but I have never even seen one that was under 150k with my own eyes.I'm at 240k+ on mine and its still like a new Jeep IMO with no leaks and no consumption of fluids but it has been taken real good care of and I expect to get 300,000+ if not more.Just keep it well maintained and you should be good to go for a long time.My work beater a 1993 Saturn sl SOHC 5 speed has over 400k on it....With the modern lubricants of today a motor will last along time if its taken care of right.

Not only that but even if you have to rebuild every 250K you're coming out just fine. Beats the hell out of car payments.

Haha I'm one of those people. Thats why I bought the XJ...so i can get rid of this car payment. For what I spend on car payments I could buy and build an XJ every year.

What all the others have told you is excellent information and I speak with 67 yrs. of experience myself. Add the fact that I have owned business's with fleets of trucks and keeping them up is very important, not putting things off.

Currently I have 8 cars, trucks, Motor Homes and a Custom High Top Conversion Van all tagged and driven. In those are 2 Jeeps my 1999 XJ with 243,000 mi. on it a 4.0 6l, still running very well. Then the 2004 Grand Cherokee "Overland Edition" DD with 212,000 on it with the 4.7HO engine with every option offered from Jeep on it. It is very hard to tell it from a new one and a dealer told me a 9 rating on a 10 scale inside Black/Gray Leather and outside a Black with White Pearl Flake in it everything OEM except for the new floor mats I bought for it from Jeep.

I am the 3rd owner (the second owner lived close to me and only owned it for 3 mo.). It has all service records/oil changes from the day it was purchased from a dealer 45 mi. away in 2004. There is not a single item broken or that doesn't work on this Jeep period.

Go by the book for up keep and fix anything broken ASAP and it will last you a very long time.

So true!! If I get to over $350 a month in vehicle repairs and maintenance, then ok, I'll think about it. But seriously, that straight 6 will out last this Chinese crap rolling out there now!
