Looking at that flexplate, which bolts are the one's that get loose? The one's we checked are the 4 around the outside. Do we need to check the one's on the inside as well?

The $5 for lifters is to get them locally, and including shipping it's not that much of a price difference. I may try some 20w 50 oil too and see if it helps at all.

My 96 zj has sounded the same as yours from the day I bought it. I had a valve spring give out and lost all compression in my #1(not right away though). So I got a used head. Everything on it was good and sound so I decided to put new lifters in before I installed it. Got everything back together and it was nice and tight. Fired right up and ran quiet for about a second and went back to the knock knocking. Runs great again but the sound won't go away. I say **** on it and I am going to drive her till she blows before I go putting the new engine in. I have 150,000 . I figure I should be good now untill at least 200,000. If yours is running good, just go with it till the end.

Default Final Diaganosis

jaqattack02, this is my first post. My 1992 jeep sounds just like your jeep did in your video. What was your final diaganosis? Looking for answers. Thanks, Papaw

mine has done the same. i tried this: thicker oil (i used 10W40 with lucas, but 20W50 is good too. i would actually reccomend using Rotella 15W40, its made for diesel trucks but works great in higher millage vehicles, be sure to get the triple protection) anyway, i put in a bottle of Lucas octane booster then started using mid grade fuel. well some rattling stopped, but not all. as i listened closer i realized it was my catalytic converter. the parts inside of them on these jeeps come apart all the time. cut it out or put a high flow cat in it. that's my opinion anyway. took care of my rattling too.

i have over 186 thousand. 4.0 btw

I don't know guys....that sounded a little heavy.... more like a rod bearing than a lifter noise. Time for a rebuild........
