Default Jeep has no power

I need a bit of help…I have a 1998 4x4 4.0L Jeep Cherokee. Yesterday I drove it home, had lunch, and went back out to start it to return to work. I put my key in and I had a flash of power and then the whole Jeep went dead. I mean no power at all – radio, dash, headlights, windows, locks, ignition, etc. Heck, I can’t even get the starter to turn much less anything else. I think it may be either one of two causes – battery or a fuse(s). Does anyone else have an idea? Thanks!

Don't replace your battery yet! First clean all ground connections and see what happens.

How about some good ol' fashioned "let's try to find out what exactly" here first, before the charade of parts throwing shall take place?

OP, to start with the suggestions you gave as to what you thought might be going on: have you done any testing yet?

Test you battery voltage and check your connections to the battery terminals. Make sure they are clean and tight.
Sufficient voltage? If not, recharge your battery. If yes, have it load tested.
Clean your connections and grounds. Many electrical issues caused by bad grounds.
Have you checked those fuses, this being one of the causes you raised?

Don't buy anything new yet, the above is all free of charge.

^^ Do this stuff first^^
You don't want to start throwing parts at it before you do a little testing first.
