just went out and the hose isnt collapsing. im gonna try a water pump because i just put this motor in about a month ago and the water pump looks fairly new but i didnt put it on so i dont know

if your lower rad hose doesnt have the spring in it, the hose will collapes this may be why you can drive it for a while then it suddenly has a temp spike.Also drill a couple of holes in your t-stat. good luck

it never happened before i put this motor in. and im pretty sure i used my radiator hose that was on my previous motor
