Default Jeep Commander electronic Locker in cherokee 8.25

Does anyone know if you can put the electric locker they use in the commander 8.25 axle in a 1997 cherokee 8.25?

My guess is no......but u can install a auto locker (lunchbox) in about 2-3 hrs and no messy with ring/pinion set-up. The auto locker can be used both on/off road.

My guess is, since the OP is asking about an electric locker, he wants to switch it (push a button) back-n-forth from diff to spool.

I don't really want to go auto locker, It's between a selectable and lsd. I just wonder if they changed the 8.25 axle housing any. If not there should be no reason you can't put the commander electric locker in your housing. Obviously you would have to drill a hole for the wires.

.....and if the carriers are different, a ring/pinion set-up also maybe?

I own a Commander (Hemi) and as far as I know the 8.25 diff is the same however the XK 8.25 is a full floating axle. What that means is that everything from the diff housing outward is different. I have read reports that the XJ ARB 8.25 locker fits the XK 8.25 housing.

Another note; Anytime you remove the carrier from a 8.25 you must reset the backlash! The 8.25 uses adjuster cups to set backlash. You have to have the tool(s) and know how to do this properly.
