Jeep 2.5 Diesel Glow Plugs
Hi Guys
My Daughter drives a 1995 Jeep 2.5 litre diesel, and has recently had problems starting it during the recent cold weather. Having had a look I can see that the previous owner must of had problems with gaining access to the 2nd from the front (radiator end) glow plug. and has fitted a by-pass new live feed from cylinder 1 (at Radiator) to cylinder 3 thereby doing away with no 2 altogether. Now, of course the weather has turned really cold the poor old car won't start. I have got a new set of plugs and will reconnect the by-passed one, but am unsure how easy it is to get to that particular glow plug. Do you have to remove the diesel pump or is there a special tool for removing it?
Can't seem to get a manual for the diesel model.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Baz

Baz...hate to be a nit-picker, but which diesel, and which model Jeep? diesel availability varied my market...Reanult, VM Motori, etc, and by Jeep model...GRand Cherokee, Liberty(Cherokee), XJ Cherokee, etc. to give meaningful answers, we'll need more complete info...

based on the vin decoder at http://jeep.avtograd.ru/VIN/vin_en.asp
8 M Engine Turbo Diesel, 2,5 litres, I-4, VM Motori
AFAIK, that engine was never offered in the N.American market, and I have no personal hands on experience with it to give any suggestions about removing the glow plugs.
Based on my experiences with other diesels, it would be unusual to have to mess with the injection pump to remove the glowplugs, but sometimes special tools are listed . thats assuming all is normal, and good, however...if the plug has ballooned, for example, getting it out could even require removing the head from the engine.
good luck...maybe try a UK jeep site, where the VM engine was at least available?

Hi ulendo
Many thanks, I'll give the UK market a try, and also see if I can find any special tools available to do the job.
Thanks again and Regards
