Help!!!! does anyone know how well a 1978 awd j10 is for climbing?

About as good as a ZJ with a 249 t-case. The awd t-case in the FSJs is a weak link but can be swapped as well as putting locking hubs on the front axle. Gearing, motor and transmission will have a lot to do with climbing ability as well. I'm guessing it has a TH400 auto if it's awd and it has a pretty low first. Gear it to the tires and you should be fine.
