so im pretty sure my head gasket is near its end. not ony is my jeep leaking alot of oil from valve cover and alot is going into the intake but now the puddle of oil is lookin mighty brown maybe this week i will start rippin it apart. at least i will be able to get the broken exause stud out so it sounds lik a truck not a weed wacker. anyone done this befor? i did it a few months ago on my f150, im gussing its just ripping everything off putting new gaskets and putting it all back together,

If I may make a suggestion -
There was an article in JP Magazine a few years back regarding a cam swap (crane or comp) in a non-HO XJ. You have to remove the head to install as well as install new lifters.
If it was my rig I would take full advantage of the situation. I think the cam netted some 10 - 15 horses or so. Turn a standard HG job into an engine refresher!

Man, you should have mentioned that you needed to swap a head gasket, the other day when we were 4wheeling. I had my Haynes manual with me. I would have let you borrow it.

i suspected it but i have been trying not to think about it haha. oh well i will just buy one. always handy to have around. i posted some pics on the pacnorthwest thread of our trip.

if you change head gasket...be sure to have your head checked on flow bench and checked for accuracy if its warped 1000th off it could cause problems....mine leaked oil from valve cover...air was getting in and causing moister making oil tan....that leaked..i tightened it up and problem solved make sure all bolts are tight...also i but new cover on with all new vac lines and mine doesnt blow any oil in filter anymore....

i just checked... there are three bolts on the passenger side that i can take out with my hand. and a few on the drivers side. il get a new gasket and fix that right up...im sure this will help haha thanks
