Default Intersting little find when switching out gauge cluster

So a week or so I bought a gauge cluster with tach for my 89' Well it arrived today and I was first off amazed at how clean the gauges and the lens was. It's in like new condition. For starters I tested each bulb to make sure they were all good and bingo not a bad bulb in the cluster. So I dove into the swap pulled the bezel off and got the old cluster out. once I had it out I made sure I had the same amount of bulbs in my old one that the new one had. It appears the new cluster has one more bulb on the left side where all the idiot lights are. Oh well no biggy I thought. So I plugged in the new cluster mounted it up put the bezel back on and started the jeep. All the gauges and lights work but I have a new warning light on that I didn't have before. Yes my emissions light is now on. My guess is the PO of my jeep pulled the light rather than fixing the issue triggering it. I'm gonna guess my old dog needs a possible O2 senors.

Anything else I should may look at?

Renix doesn't throw check engine lights. Just pull the bulb.

The light is to remind you to replace the o2 sensor. It is just a timer that comes on every so many miles. You dont need to remove the bulb you can just unplug the timer from under the dash.

Interesting. This cluster supposedly came out of another 89' and just to be clear it's not a "Check Engine" light. It's an "Emission Light".

Sweet what's that look like? Rather do that then pull the cluster again.

Yep a lot easier than pulling the bulb. Unfortunately I can't remember what it looked like because I tossed mine a long time ago. If someone doesnt post up a picture soon ill try to get one for you tomorrow.

Found just under the dash by the Hood release it had a bracket with one screw holding it to the bottom edge of the dash. Unplugged it, unscrewed it and no more light.

Thanks again for the quick help guys.

How is it possible that I live in California, emissions **** capital of the world, drive an '89 XJ, and don't have one of these boxes?

I am the second owner, the first being an elderly woman who never had the car serviced by anyone but the dealer. Weird!

you can't reset those timers, so it's likely the mechanic at the dealer pulled the unit.
