Looking for the part name of the internal tranny gear that turns the speed gear in the speed sensor? Also, info. regarding how to replace that gear.

My '96 Cherokee, 2WD, 4.0, Speedometer/Odometer stopped working. All other gauges on instrument cluster still work. No speedometer cable, it has wiring connection. Removed Speed Sensor Gear. Stuck my fingers and found broken pieces of a plastic gear. It looks like it once went around the drive shaft and turned the speed gear to the speed sensor.

How to replace: remove the rear trans. seal or remove tailhousing and dissemble?

 

You have to remove the extension housing.
Scroll down and you can see the gear on the shaft.
