Intermittent no crank issue
So sometimes my 90 Cherokee doesnt wan to crank over. I have lights, battery terminals are tight and clean,Ive even loosened them, wiggled them and retightened them to no avail.
At times I can just move the shifter down to Neutral and it will start right up,other times it wont. Sometimes I can just jockey the shifter back and forth in the Park position and it will start. This tells me theres likely an issue with the Neutral Safety switch.
However today no amount of jockeying the shifter,or putting it into neutral would be of any benefit.
The only way I could get it to start was a last ditch effort at smacking the starter and solenoid with a small ball peen hammer. After a few whacks, the engine cranked right over like normal.
So when a person has to resort to smacking the starter with a hammer to get the vehicle to start, what does this indicate? Starter taking a crap?

To me it does sound like you 2 problems First your NSS and second Your starter solenoid Is going out. You can do a search to find out how to rebuild your NSS.
Good luck.
Good luck.
