interior panel backing stuff?
Does anyone know the name of that nasty carpet padding stuff they put on the backing of some of the interior panels of Cherokees? It looks like the stuff you use for padding before carpet is laid in a house. Is there a place where you can buy it? Will that padding stuff they sell at home depot work? My origanal stuff was completely shot and shredded being 20 years old.

Its called jute. You can get it at most carpet stores as carpet padding. It is the same stuff. Just because it is in a car doesn't make it special.

thanks! I didn't think it was anything special but wasn't sure. Are there different types of "jute"? Is any kind better than another? Or is all pretty much the same other than thickness

There are different grades for sure. I always went to a carpet store and let the salesman help me out as they usually have some remnants that they let go real cheap.
I always went to a locally owned store and not a chain store as local stores will sell remnants and chains do not.

I ended up going to Carpet Exchange cause they were right down the street and the guy there was really cool and knew exactly what I needed. Got three square yards of some good material for a grand total of $10 bucks after tax.
Thanks for the help guy!
Should I use the spray adhesive that is used for head liners to attach it to the panels? Or is there something else?
