I just have not had the chance to do so. I'm a busy girl. I'm no expert mechanic, but i know the basics. Electronics are not my favorite thing. I hope this helps. If anyone has any advice..let me know.
Me too! My power locks randomly lock and unlock also..

Default i got nothing

I have walked myself through it all and I see no obvious reason for what my jeep is doing. I only found one wire that had shorted out and everything seems to be all good. I am surrendering it to shop for their evaluation. Cuz I got nothing! LOL. It went over 200,000 miles and has gone haywire. I must be missing something somewhere. I will let you know what they find.

If your lights dim when you close the doors it means that the current takes a longer path with more resistance to arrive to the lights. I am quite sure that the door switches work well, but i would remove the hatch panel and unplug the wires that go to the switch that is inside the latch just to check if it is that.
If it is not that it is the main lights switch and it needs to be replaced.

This issue has got me ticked off. I've tried everything and still cant figure it out. Why does it make my power doors lock and unlock randomly?

okay, so i took my jeep in and they said that one of the passenger door sensors were bad and the lock access sensor was also bad ( that made the locks go nuts for no reason). I checked the door sensors, but whatever.. hope this helps the rest of yall who have the same issues.

Thumbs up Another life saver

Thank you so much for this thread! I have killed my battery 2x now (bought a recharger when I got my XJ cuz I knew it would happen eventually!) since my interior lights just started staying on. I took the fuse out, but killed my battery anyway. Now I know where to look cuz my liftgate is shredded to hell inside...it's held together with duct tape LOL too typical. Will check all the gate wiring cuz it all started happening right after the shocks broke on it and the whole inside panel fell out, speakers and all. Thanks again everyone!!

K, so I know this thread is over a year old, but I'm having similar issues. A few weeks ago I finally decided to fix the liftgate handle on my 94 grand cherokee laredo. It would stick and not open when it was unlocked. I always had to push down HARD on the liftgate at the same time I pulled on the handle. Anyway, I used a fair amount of WD-40 and VOILA! Worked like new. About a week later the computer kept flashing and chiming that the lifgate was open when it was shut. The first time this happened I locked it manually and the warnings were gone. About a week later I opened the liftgate again, but this time when I closed it, locking it manually didn't work. When I drive the dome lights flash constantly and the chime repeats every time the lights flicker! When I park I have to open and close the liftgate a million times before the dome lights go off. I don't want to put more money into this jeep as I'm selling it as soon as my CJ-2A is crawling.

Find the dome light delay. It will look like an elongated and slightly thinner version of a turn signal flasher. It will also be warm or hot to the touch. It has three prongs on it. Will be either by the fuse box or up under the drivers side dash board.

Unplug it and the dome lights should turn off when the doors are shut.

Default Interior light proble revisited

Ok, I thought that I fixed the problem with my XJ but it appears to have reared its ugly head again...
Thing is, the interior lights work fine if the engine is running...they turn off with the doors shut and if I open the doors they turn on. The moment I turn off the engine, the interior lights turn on and stay on.
This is probably something phenomenally simple and now I'm kicking myself for not learning more about electrical systems already.
It doesn't appear to be the dimmer switch or the headlight switch. I've gone over all the door switches (redundant as the interior lights work fine with the engine running). I've checked the fuses and grounds. WTF?!?!!?
Having a brain fart!

Now I'm. Not looking to point out my own ignorance towards how a Cherokee operates but this guy is a genious. After two days of light I now know how the the Alaskimos feel!

My interior lights only go out if the headlight switch is turned all the way to "Überdim" and makes it extremely hard to read my gauges. They worked fine until last night. I'm thinking the mechanic was fiddling with wires or something.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/dom...4/#post3457380 This thread helped me get my door-operated lighting back to normal on my 99 XJ. Corrosion caused a path to ground essentially bypassing one of the door jamb switches.
