96 xj sport interior lights behind the ac/heater controls do not work.some have told me that there are no lights back there .im in the dark,whats up .is there a bulb back there or not.thanks

Yes. There should be a bulb back there. Mines a 93 but I got one back there that was burned out also. I actually pulled my deck out and was able to remove and replace the bulb. It's nice being able to see it at night. Hope that helps.

I have a 96 also and YES there is a light bulb back there. I just replaced mine recently. I dont remember what the bulb number was but its the little bity ones that go everywhere else too. Pull radio out and I want to say it was on the top right side. Twists out and theres the bulb. Just be careful they dont like to go back in and stay in. Least mine didnt want to.

Jchat is right. It's a very common bulb. Ask the part store for a 194 bulb/license plate/peanut bulb and they will know what you mean.
