If that filter is not in a sealed box and have a large enough spot up front for cold air to come in it's a complete waist and not a Cold Air Intake. You can't get cold air when it's sucking in the nice lovely hot air your engine and exhaust is producing..Spend the money on bored out throttle body, 99+ intake manifold and better injectors.

I'm with gabe. fab something. That's easy for me to say though, I own a sheet metal fab shop. If you notice this system he probably paid $50.00 for filter metal and pvc. this is actually working the same as all of those systems, just a little ugly, no offence gabe, just not a big fan of pvc. I'm gonna make a metal pipe, if I do it. But again I have a metal shop it will be free. Maybe there's a market for making these extension pipes out of metal. They cost 45.00 at vatozone and I could probably sell them for like 15-25.00. What do you guys think?? maybe a good business opportunity. I did it on my 07' Dodge ram. If anybody subscribes to a mag called 4x4 garage they did a test on a 01 wrangler for new intakes, yea yea i know its not an Xj but given the results of each company you should be able to expect simalar results from what they have avaliable for xjs.

Given you also have to take into acount how well shielded the filter is from debris, what kind of filter is on it, does it need oiled, how sturdy is the contrustion and is it worth the hefty price tag attached to the name bland.

Napa Gold drop in paper filter is good enough. If your spending $300 + on an intake why not just go with a snorkel?

Its funny, I saw some guy with a lifted Pathfinder and he had a cold air intake that actually dropped down below the bumper. Works good for water crossings.....

My Airaid was less around $200 and works great. If you notice the 2nd picture, it has a rubber seal around the top of the shield that fits firm to the hood to keep out excess heat. Thanks again for posting this info for those intake haters out there.

I think puralator. Any standard paper filter will do and the Napa Gold is made buy puralator.

Yea my local shop has Airaid Stuff but ive always been a little leery about em they just seemed like K&N nock of stuff but they must make a decent intake then. Ive got one of their "helix" TBS on my XJ right now I donno if it helps with anything but i can hear a whistle like it says im supposed to when i get into high rpms.

Yes, and still current. A forum member with this open intake just hydrolocked his XJ. A stock air box 'might' have saved him due to it's design.
