Yes sir, it sure does. Wife mentioned the oil pressure gauge spiked yesterday. Now that's got me thinking gauge cluster like someone mentioned. I HATE computers. I want a model A Ford....with a\c.

This morning I made extra effort to make sure the air was out. Opened radiator and warmed up engine, turned on heat, raised rpm and held it until water\antifreeze stabilized then added water while holding throttle part way open until full replaced cap and let it go back to idle. It;s still doing it. I took IR gun and hose from pump to rad was 220, hose from rad to pump was 195 housing for thermostat was 255 as was the head.

makes no sense, fan cycles by water temp and a/c operation if he shut off the a/c why would the condensor continue to be "stupid" hot since the compressor is no longer compressing refrigerant ??

OK, here's what I figured out so far. A fella in a different overheat post mention the computer will bump the gauge way up and light the check gauges light when it reaches a certain threshold. This makes sense to me as the gauge creeps up under load until it gets to a needles width over the 220 line and then bang. So I figure somethings causing it to get hotter than normal but not boiling over crack a head hot. The thing only has about 50+K miles on it so I think the water pump is fine. That and when you look in the rad and hit the gas the water level drops so it's pumping. The thermostat is new and so is the temp sensor. That leave the radiator or the a\c. I got some rad cleaner and am doing a rad flush now. It says run it a couple days with the stuff in it so thats where I am. It's possible the a\c is hot and heating the air in front of the rad but I don't know what would cause that. Low freon?

A low charge in the AC can cause the compressor or condensor to become hot.

You will not have to burp the cooling system is you have 3.5 gallons of coolant/water.

Not yet. I have a radiator cleaner in it right now. Directions say run it 3-6 hours then drain and refill. I have probably 3 hours on it now and still over heats. Thermostats new, sending unit is new, so next thing I guess I'll try is to replace the radiator. The water pump moves water so that the only thing left. The a\c cools fine but I'll charge it anyhow and see if that cools things down first.

low on refrigerant wont make it over heat when its low the compressor will cycle thereby removeing the heat generated by the compressor. the elec fan shouldnt cycle with the compressor as long as the water temperature is high enough for it to run
try shineing a powerful flashlight from the rear of the rad thru the front, than looking thru the grill see if it looks like its dirty if so hose out the cooling fins.

my 98 does this too when the a/c is on and im in traffic and stopped for more than a couple of minutes. i havent had a fan shroud for years, and replaced my elec fan with a ebay cheapo a number of years ago. after reading youre post i ordered the shroud and correct elec fan. so guess ill see how it goes

has anybody mentioned checking the fan clutch yet.

My bad, I forgot to say the fan clutch was the first thing I swapped. Then sending unit and thermostat, and now running a rad cleaner through it but not really making a difference. I just hosed out the rad and will test it out but I'm not thinking it will help. Didn't look too dirty.

Well hosing out the radiator didn't make much difference if at all. I guess I'm down to flipping a coin on the new rad or new water pump. I notice the water level in the rad drops when I run up the RPM so I'm guessing it's compressing water into the engine so it's pumping. That leaves a new radiator. Does anyone make a upgrade rad for the 99? If I replace I hate to go stock.
