I would not tie the shackle to anything nor would I pull off it.

Here is a link to my own rear tow points that can be made up on the cheap. with very little welding involved.
They are 1/2 inch think mounts currently tied into my 3/16 think gas tank skid from http://www.jcroffroad.com/Merchant2/...y_Code=XJArmor
(which is on sale right now) to make one hefty thick piece of **** to pull off. Not going any where!
Good luck and remember safety first.

Okay, I admit, wasn't thinking too much when I posted this, but it was too damn early for my brain to work properly. There it one Jeep at my local junkyard with a hitch and it's wheel-less and sitting in the mud...not getting that hitch.

if you don't have a legitmate recovery point then you shouldn't have spent the money on the lift and instead bought an actual recovery point
not trying to bash you but i mean come on
i live in FL where there are deep nasty mudholes everywhere and the only way you get out sometimes is by being snatched would you really let someone ****** you off of your shackle??

The lift was one of those "couldn't pass it up" deals. $90 for the lift INCLUDING shocks. I have plenty of faith in shackle to hold up. My buddy's old Wagoneer got pulled out of a nasty mud hole and half the shackle was rusted off one side. Literally, his leaf spring was held on with half a shackle and he got pulled out with that and it didn't break. I personally would have not done that, though, considering it is very likely to break and send the chain flying towards whoever is pulling.

Usually using a tow strap, but the time the Wagoneer was pulled out was with a chain, and I had to use a chain once when it was all we had. We broke the tow strap trying to pull someone it was either use the chain or leave it stuck...and we weren't leaving it stuck. I usually go wheeling with my buddy who brings the tow strap, but if I'm not with him, all I have is a chain.

honestly id rather stay stuck and wait for a friend with a strap/rope to come and pull me out than be pulled out with chain
at least with a rope/strap if it breaks your not going to smash something or even worse hurt yourself or someone else
not trying to be a jerk or anything but it sounds like that 90 bucks woulda been better spent on a hitch and strap of some sort...

Ehh, I'm usually with my buddy with the tow strap, so it's not a big deal. I'm going to see what materials my buddy has laying around to see if I can do something similar to the recovery points in the thread someone posted earlier. I'm not considering putting anything on the shackles, though. I didn't realize how stupid it was when I posted it. Gotta start thinking about stuff twice before I post. Oh well, now everyone just thinks I'm an idiot. I guess tomorrow I'll check to see what materials I have and start fabbing something up.

Yea, I hear you. I wouldn't recommend it either if they have something sturdier. My old 2WD Dodge Dakota got stuck and I was able to wrap the tow strap around the bumper mount and it would've worked fine, but we broke that tow strap too
I trusted that bumper mount a lot more than those shackles, though. That truck was a piece of crap. So for everyone new reading this...
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MOUNT RECOVERY POINTS ON YOUR SHACKLES DUE TO THE FACT THEY CAN GIVE OUT UNDER A HARD PULL RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY AND A JEEP YOU CAN'T DRIVE HOME
There's my disclaimer, so nobody try this. It was a stupid idea.

weld some u-bolts onto the sides of your stock bumper mounts (drill holes through bumper, instert u-bolt so one side is on either side of the mount, weld). I do it to my buddys jeeps when they dont want to spend the dough to atleast pick up a $50 hitch from the junk yard. If you hook through both it does a pretty good job. I have only broke one on 4 jeeps. They make for a great temporary.
o and get your own strap without hooks just so you ALWAYS have it

Yea, I'm just too damn broke right now to afford anything. Next paycheck, I'll invest in some recovery points and check down the junkyard to see if any new Cherokees came in. It's been a week or so since I've last been there. Also, I need to pick up a new driver's seat anyway, mine's about to fall off, haha.
