FI is very reliable on at HO cherokees and newer, 91 or so and up. Not only that, but carb requires warm up time, plus carbs cant provide fuel at awkward angles, carbs are worst for fuel milage also.
I got my '91 XJ about a year ago, all the 4X4s I've owned have all been older carbureted models because I was always a fan of the k.i.s.s. theory (keep it simple stupid)
I had to swap an engine into my XJ and ran into some problems that required quite a bit of troubleshooting. At first I was overwhelmed by all the sensors and the fuel injection but after reading and becoming familiar with the various systems they're really not that difficult to work on... Just different than what I was used to, no way would I trade the fuel injection for a carburetor now!

Carbs work great on non-computer controlled engines. In the 80s before fuel injection and during the push for cleaner running engines the carbs used were a nightmare. They were more complex and harder to tune than any type of fuel injection system.
