Default INFO on front axles please

I found out my 2000 xj (manufacture date 01-00) doesn't have a 2000 front axle. I changed the hub assembly and it had the "90-99" year hub assem. So I guess the axle was changed with an older one. Is there a way to tell the year of the axle? I'm not sure if it's the original tag but it has one on the diff cover bolts. Also, are the steering knuckles different for 2000-01? I installed the 2000 hub assembly and it fit but the rotor was hitting the backing plate, which leads me to believe the knuckles have to be different somehow. The rotors I have are for a 2000-01, so they are obviously the wrong ones for the hub assemblies that are on there. But they fit ok for now will I get the right ones, they just don't allow the center wheel bore to ride on the hub.

Sorry to get detailed, but is there a diff. between steering knuckles and axle houses? The actual axle shafts themselves?

No.

I wasn't aware that there were any changes at all to the Dana 30 during those years...

Does your hubs match you rotors? If I remember correctly you should have composite rotors. There's a thread called " cast vs composite rotors".... Search for it and it will tell you everything you need ti know about them. Hope this helps.

There are two different size hubs. Same diameter but height is off by 1/4" I have the shorter taller hubs which leads me to believe my front axle was changed. No I don't have the right rotors, they are for a 2000 up axle not a 99 below

As long as you match your rotors and hubs, you're fine, everything else is the same.
