Default Indecisive A/C Clutch

I just put a new compressor, receiver, and expansion valve on the jeep. I evacuated the system and it held the vacuum for an hour so I charged it with freon. It was beginning to blow cool and the gauge was reading around 30. I guess it finaly got enough pressure to disengage the clutch and when it did the gauge shot up to about 75 and it started blowing hot. I shut off the can of freon and it was still blowing hot. I let out some of the freon thinking it had to much pressure and it did start blowing cool again, but not cold. Now the clutch will either not engage and blow hot or it will remain engaged the entire time and blow cool. It's always a toss up which it will do. What could cause the clutch to go from one exteme to the other like this?

Get your butts down to Sears or Kmart and buy yourself the ArcticFreeze Smart-Charge for 29.99. Start the jeep set ac to max hook box to low port, it will measure a/c system, redlight means overcharge ,yellow light stop adding refrigerant, green light proper charge , white light low charge. It even comes with a proper guide to follow ,and a troulbeshooting guide website, and 1 800 # to call when you fall on your face (get in trouble).

Just on the low side where you put the freon in.

Maybe something is wrong on the high pressure/discharge side causing the compressor to cycle. Did a, what I call major, a/c overhaul on our '98 XJ about 6 weeks ago....new dryer, hose manifold, liquid line and compressor. Flushed the evap and cond, blew them out with compressed air, added PAG oil to the dryer and compressor, re-connected everything and had the system professionally charged. The compressor stays on/engaged as long as the dash control is in the a/c position, no cycle off/on.....not this time of year anyhow. 34F at the center dash vents.
