I assume to copy/pasted the first post. Might help to say that. I kinda thought initially you were selling your 98 with those problems to buy a later model XJ. Which could only go up another 3 years lol.

Anyway if he is selling it for 1700 go BUY it the only thing that should concern you is a Rusted out body. If there is no rust then you are set.

So is this a great deal? What's up with the oil pressure switch? Guy wants to unload it but slow with responses to questions.

Oil pressure switch is more like 15 bucks at autozone and will take you all of 5 minutes to replace. All it does is tell you what the pressure is in on the guage in the cab.

Your best bet is too just go look at this vehicle and test drive it and what not a oil pressure switch will not keep you from test driving it unless it is missing. but 1700 on a 98 hell even with a blown engine if the rest of it is in good shape then it is a good deal. Especially since you can pick up a JY 4.0 for what 300 bucks. that means you just spent 2 grand on a 98 and there is not a person on this forum that wouldn't be willing to pay 2 grand on a 98 XJ.

Regardless of how easy the owner says the problems with it would be to fix, I'm always leary about ads like that. If it's so freakin' easy, why doesn't he fix it? For all you know, the oil pump is bad on it, and it's getting ready to throw a rod. Just take anything he says as a lie then look it over with that in mind and you'll be fine. Good luck as it sounds like a great deal otherwise.

My 2 cents on the oil pressure switch: if the needle on the oil pressure gauge is bouncing around a lot, or goes to "extreme" high or low pressure rapidly, it is probably just a sending unit - a very easy 15 minute fix! However, if the needle is always very low and doesn't swing around, you may want to be a bit wary of the engine.
