I ave a 92 Xj and seem to have a lil of the same problem only mine driving down the road eith bogs down or kinda chugs between 45-55mph, the best thing i can describe it as is the "Honda Idle" where it pulsates but mine does this while driving, ive changed the TPS, had a major tune up done and still cant figure it out, only does it sometimes not every day..Lmk if you did find the problem at all..

Flagler, from what you say, it sounds like your TPS is bad. Get a new one and adjust it properly and be done with it. Just google TPS adjustment. It's pretty simple and there are lots of links on how to do it. I have them printed out at home. if you can't find them PM me and I will send it to you.
I also GUARANTEE if the PO of your Jeep had bad enough symptoms of a bad fuel pump to pull it out, then it definitely is bad or going bad. My experience with XJ fuel pumps is they start going bad about 3-6 months before they cra p all together. Your symptoms definitely sound like a fuel pump that is going bad. Hard starting, surging when accelerating or pulling a hill and random dying when idling are all bad fuel pump indications.
ALWAYS stick with the OEM recommended Champion sparkplugs with all XJ motors. Autolights are a good second if you can't find Champions. Never never EVER use Bosch Platinum plugs in anything. They straight up suck!!! and they are expensive!!
