I'm looking for product advice on Headers... '99 XJ 4.0
Today, after a week of fixing all kinds things on the XJ, I have been blessed with the cracked header failure. I knew it was coming as I could hear it getting worse but now it sounds like a damn WWI bi-plane.
So I am preparing to replace the header and run a whole new exhaust system. I read through the write-up for the '91-'98 Jeep (https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/je...91-98-a-80445/) and he mentions the APN header. Seems it's very favorable from what I've seen... so I took a look.. are they still available? I don't see where you can buy a set anywhere.
If not, what's a good/comparable replacement? I gotta knock this out as I can't get my XJ inspected till I do.
Thanks.
JR

While I cant speak for the APN, I have ran a few different ones over the years. All have been on different jeeps so my results may not be conclusive.
1.) Borla- Expensive. Noticed a decent gain in seat-of-your-pants power and slight mpg increase. Lasted for about 5 years at which point I sold the jeep.
2.) Gibson- felt a tiny bit of power gain, sounds great! No mpg change- coating was nice and durable. Worth noting the Ebay headers are EXACTLY the same design (probably slightly different materials)
3. My current header is an AFE. I cant really comment on power as I did it at the same time as my Stroker/100 other upgrades. It works great on the Stroker and has a true merged collector. It has held up great. Combined with a 3" exhaust/spun cat/44 it sounds great and the engine runs great as well.
All three bolted up great without any issues (some people have to beat on the APN). All three never cracked/leaked (I always use a little bit of copper rtv when installing). The APN is indeed popular (its cheap!) and will probably work fine as a stock replacement. I'm sure you will shortly have 20 people telling you to get it. They do seem to be alot harder to find now! Amazon used to have them cheap.

I wanted some opinions before I buy this. Nothing worse than tossing money at something only to find as soon as you install it, there was something a lot better out there.
Thanks, I look forward to the list of opinions from you guys. Nothing but the best so far!
