2001 XJ Limited with anti-theft ignition system. About three weeks ago I tried to start it and it sounded like the battery was dead, but it wasn't. This started getting progressively worse so I took it to a neighbor/mechanic and he figured out what it was. The key was popping out a little bit as he started it and this is causing the weird starting problem, now I can replicate it every time. By pushing the key in it starts fine but when I try to turn the key to the off position I can feel the innards of tumbler are not "tight", or maybe it's the switch that feels funny, and I have to jiggle it a little to get it to the correct position. BTW I have the infamous loose key syndrome, you can pull it right out no matter what position it's in even when its running and my steering wheel doesn't lock anymore.
Since this started the power door locks started doing wacky things, they work sometimes, other times I can hear all of the actuators clicking but not opening the locks, except on the passenger side front door. Other times they all work fine. I also hear a squawking kind of a sound from the overhead console when I work the power door lock switch back and forth. Any ideas what I need to do to fix this will be greatly appreciated.

As for the door locks I have a 93 I Just today had to lube all mechanisms that the actuator moves in the door latch had to do last year also they seem to sludge up from mud and dirt and ends up that it's to hard for the actuator to move but still sounds like it's working just figured that info might help don't think the key should effect operation of that
