Exclamation If the RMS leaks....

Already searched the forums here, and got alot of great information on our tragic Rear Main Seal that is eternally prone to fail. MY QUESTION is can I still drive with the RMS leaking.....

I dont have time within the next few days to replace it, and I HAVE to use my jeep for at least a 30 mile round trip on monday. I recently changed the Oil, so I know that it (had) at least 6 fresh quarts in it. When parked, the Jeep doesnt seem to be pouring out oil.

Until I can get the Job done, will I be OK to drive for a bit? I know it may seem like a dumb question, but I'm relying on the knowledge that this forum has (and jeepforums) to guide me in my best course of action.

i drove with mine for 2 weeks until I had the time to do it. Take along extra oil, always check it and the best part is you know where you parked

I have the same issue. Mine just hardly drips a little; maybe 5-6 drops after I park it. I used some Stop Leak, which is said to help restore rear main seals, at least until I get the chance to fix it, and I gotta go on a 190 mile round trip this coming weekend lol. It is like ****** told me on my thread, "Just a Jeep markin its territory" lol

LOL!

I've heard that the Stop Leak doesnt really work all that well, and that you cant necessarily fix the problem with some miracle liquid. HOWEVER, I do wish you the best of luck, and pray it works for you. And PLEASE let me know if you made it there and back ok, it will give me some hope on my trip.

Actually, I would back the Stop Leak with some cred.. When I first bought my beast, I was burning some oil. I swapped to Mobile 1 High Mileage and used a bottle of Stop Leak, and I havent burned a drop since... now it just leaks lol. Im sure it will all be ok.. Just take some oil for the girl to drink if she needs it.

Lol, I see how I contradicted myself on accident. Let me retry this.

I used the combo of Stop Leak and Mobile 1 back in November. It stopped my oil burn off, and at the time I had no external leaks. When I developed my little drip, I used the Stop Leak again to see if it could work another miracle lol. Thanks for correcting me on that

I got a pretty good belly chuckle from that too. That wasnt one of my brightest moments.

"It totally stopped the leaks.. all it does NOW is leak.." Brilliant

Just my 2 cents... I had a RMS leak when I first got my jeep and it would only come out after 55mph and smoke like a banshee.. I put some "Marvel Mystery Oil" in and it seemed to stop for a long while JMO...Tj

I've had family members use stop leak products (numerous ones) and it's caused more trouble than not. I've never used it because of that reason.

Well, so far the products I have used have never failed me yet. I maintain a descent oil pressure, have no "wear" noises as if no oil is being recieved, and always use Engine Flush every other oil change just to make sure nothing gets plugged.
