97 xj with a manual trans
Running late for work, Turned it off to get out, got back in, tried to start it, didn't get it, and when I hit the starter the second time I didn't wait long enough for th engine to stop spinning and the gears or whatever ground a bit. After waiting a bit it started fine but the Idle RPM is stuck around 2000rpm???

The throttle cable isn't stuck anywhere, What might be causing this?

 

1.Vaccuum leak
2.IAC Dirty

for 1. try spraying carb cleaner around intake,throttle body area. if it is a leak itll kinda stutter for a second replace gasket that is leaking.
for 2. remove IAC clean with toothbrush and carb cleaner reinstall.

 

thanks dude, I'll give those a try, thing was running like a champ, and I was thinkin about entering it into Cherokee of the month soon, but now this.

 

3: Linkage isn't closing all the way at the throttle body (weak spring)
