I have a 94 XJ. I bought it with a skip thinking it was just plugs and wires. i have changed all these and a few other parts and no luck. i hooked it up to a code reader and it says low engine temp. i have not replaced the thermostat yet but just wanted to know would this cause a little skip. it does it real bad when i put it in gear. it also could be the TPS sensor but just wanted to see if i could get any advice. thanks

I agree with what 1996sportxj said about the TPS, but i'd add that mine was a problem too and I fixed it with just a good cleaning. You can test it with an ohm meter (digital will work, but in this case an analog tester 'shows' better results) Ignition OFF, pull the connector and put the leads in the holes. Think of it as a variable resistor. Move the throttle and watch for smooth needle movement.
Another thing, from what you said about the low temp condition, If I remember right, cold engine signal from the temp sensor causes the 'brain' to send more fuel to the injectors. If it never gets warm enough it could cause a rich running condition. Hope this helps

Yeah I agree. We have a guy on here who always chimes in on how to test a tps. Hopefully he does that soon. And as far as the coolant temp sensor, that's the easiest thing you can possibly replace on your car. It's gold looking and sits in the thermostat housing. Simply disconnect it, unscrew it, clean it up, screw it back in and see if that makes a difference. If not, replace the sensor. It's really cheap
