Both the steel and cast aluminum wheels used 60* taper nuts, so not an issue. Otherwise, yes, you should verify you have the correct style lug nuts https://www.carparts.com/blog/flat-b...les-explained/ Also make sure the lugs are long enough, as a cast aluminum wheel is generally much thicker than a stamped steel rim.

Cars that have aluminum rims and a steel spare sometimes have a combination nut (ex Toyota Tacomas), with a flange for the aluminum and a tapered snout so you can install the spare.

I'm kinda partial to the silver painted steelies on my 99.. Not sure why...maybe because you just don't see them as much... getting ready this Spring to pull them off and do a repaint via DIY... that's pretty cheap... Only thing that seems to be expensive with them is those centre caps... hard to find in good condition and most want a king's ransom for them.
If you're dead set on something other than the OEM's... if you want to keep your XJ for the long haul... changing the back spacing from stock is really at your own risk.
Sure there are lots of companies that sell ones that will fit... but did they do as much research as the engineers that designed our XJ's? I highly doubt it.
That's just my 2 cents.... If you get ones that are close to the stock offset you're probably gonna be just fine.

Seems the steel is 90* and Aluminum is 60*. So I need 60* lug nuts. What size thread would these be so I can order them?

I have pimped mine with '00 Ford Explorer wheels, tear-drop chromes 16 x 265 x 16. They look great

(I drilled them to take the Jeep "hubcaps", as the "Ford" ones would be completely unacceptable)

everything used, a lot of guys sell brand new wheels and tyres on their brand new bigger SUVs and upgrade wheels and tyres (just like we do)

The point about lug nuts is very important, the ford wheels are "hub centred", I believe the Jeep wheels are lug centred

This meant I had to carefully hone about 1/16" from centre inside diameter to fit onto the Jeep hubs pefectly

Offset/backspacing is also CRITICALLY important, otherwise your new wheel/tyre combo WILL hit inside or out

The Ford wheel is 1/2" different offset, and you dont want much more than that. Dont check this at your own expen$e

Do you have any pics?

I'm so busy I can't do a lift right now but the tires are shot. Will a 30 x9.5 R15 fit with no rubbing on stock height?

Yeah they will fit. They are just a hair bigger than 235's...
If you are at stock height.... that's probably as big as you can go without rubbing. My XJ is sitting on a mild 2.5" inch lift. I can fit 31's if I wanted to. They might rub the LCA's a little bit but only at full lock.
I did a test fit, but went with 235s again as they were much more cost effective. Next time definitely going with 31s.

Thanks. I wasn't sure with this 15x8 wheel vs the 15x7 stock . I'm going with the BFG Mud Terrains. I know people like the All Terrains but I had those on my Ram and hated them. It was all over the place in severe rain

I've ran the super old school Goodyear Wrangler 23575r15's with that old Jeep style block tread. You would think by looking at the tread design that they would be absolute dog poo in the serious wet.
But they have been unbelievably good in serious rain, deep snow, dirt, and dry. And it's a relatively inexpensive tire compared to what is available. Only thing is that I think 235 is the largest size for that design/model of tire.

Got the 30x9.5 R15 BFG's installed . No rubbing. I think a 3"inch lift will look better even with these tires. I know , I did it backwards but the tires it came with were unsafe.
