I have a pretty good idea of how and what to prep before bed-lining but what would you say would be a good prep procedure? I just want some other input on how others would do it

Prep was easy - wash the truck real well, scuff the paint lightly with 600 grit sandpaper (until the gloss on the paint is gone), then wipe down with lacquer thinner (or similar chemical). After this, mask off what you don't want done in bedliner, then brush it on. I used Herculiner: I bought 1 gallon from AutoZone, and used less than half of it on the lower part of the body, the door jambs, etc. It was brush-on, but looks great - the whole project took maybe 3 hours, and I took my time... I did it about a year ago, and it looks great and has held up real well. I highly recommend brush-on over the spray type (I have used both) as it is a lot easier to apply and seems more durable.

they sell prep wipes at the parts store. should be in the same section as the paint and bedliner. get a bunch of them as well as the red scuff pads. first give the heep a bath. mine had a good coat of wax so i used a prep wipe first. then take the red scuffing pad and go to town on anything you want to paint. make sure you get everything really good so there is no shine left to the paint. then taka another prep wipe an go over the area to be sprayed again for good measure. then paint away

when i did the interior of my explorer, i sanded all the way to bare metal. vacuumed it out, wiped down with acetone. I used herculiner (dont get it on your hootus!!), and did 3 coats, with the recommended dry time in between each. then a full 24 hours to cure/set before i touched it or started putting everything back in. It came out awesome, never chipped/came off. i have a big tool box i used to lug around in the back, and even after months of sliding it in and out of the hatch, there was no wear to the herc. im going to be doing the rear of the xj in this same way...in a month or two. ill post up a thread when i do. maybe tonight ill post up some old pics of my explorer, before and after.

Onlyinmyxj22 i like the look of the floor and the rear bed bedlined. This might be in store for me this summer. As for the outside paint, did you just do one coat? Any of you can answer. Same question for onlyinmyxj, how many coats did you use of it? And to get the carpet up, did you have to unbolt the seats at all? Sorry if i sound like a rook guys, dont worry though im not, i just dont have much knowledge of things that aren't under the body or under the hood...
