Default I think jeep jumped timing

Have a 1991 jeep cherokee sport 5 speed 4x4 i was going down the road high speed it started dying out very rough running then it died since then ive only been able to crank it twice and it would only run for about 15 seconds super rough still replaced just about everything (fuel pump ,fuel filter ,distributor, plugs ,crank sensor , fuel pressure regulator then something forgot the name but it has a plug wire going to the distributor) still nothing only thing i ain't checked is injectors doing that later today and the timing chain was wondering could me and my buddy put it back in time by ourselfs we are medium skilled in car work or would it be easier to just get it hauled to a shop and them do it thanks for the help

How many miles on the engine? Jumping timing isn't very common on the 4.0, I replaced my timing chain and gears at 240K just as preventive mantinace since I already had the radiator out anyway. It had some slack in the chain but I honestly think it could have gone another 100K without issue.

It has 174k miles but when i first bought it it was already hard to crank it would take a second to crank

Check the fuel pump ballast resistor on the drivers fender. If the connectors are corroded, or it's cracked then it'll start okay but die soon after starting. You can eliminate the resistor and connect the wires together.
