Default I Smell Gasoline (1992 Cherokee XJ)

Does anyone know if a 1992 Cherokee would indicate a trouble code if the EVAP system had a leak? I know our 2001 XJ gives the codes on its OBD II system but not sure about older OBD ! system on the 1992 models. Thank you.

I wouldnt expect to see a trouble code in the early years for that. A California emissions deal? I wouldnt know what that entails either.

If you are infact smelling excess fuel, the fuel injectors can seap fuel, the evap /breather lines can become brittle around the gas tank (2 vacuum lines from the top of the tank to meet 1 steel line by the fuel filter) and also at the connecting point to the evap canister at the passenger back corner of the engine block.
