I had my "new" engine on the engine stand took the head off and put new valve steam seals in(went well and was kinda fun). then i was going to blow air in the clynders to clean them out a little. so i went to roll the engine over and before i could do anything about it 9 out of 12 lifters fell out.

each lifter was very clean and all 9 of them looked exactly the same on the bottoms they werent concaved or looked worn at all.
im starting to get a little tight on money with this engine but u gotta do what u gotta do...so should i get new ones??

Get new lifters if you dont know whch cylinder they came from, one of the best ways to wipe out the cam. When you replace them, coat them in assembly lube, and run a botle of ZDDP additve. Run the engine @ 2000-2500 RPM for about 20mins to break them in to the cam.

well the lifters fell out of a 95 engine with 98k on it. its really clean in the engine, the cross marks on cly wall are still very visable.
But I guess the safe thing to do is buy new ones. whats another 70 bucks right...

Don't you wanna fluctuate engine rpm? Or is that just for initial break in of a motor?

I know you must NOT keep the motor at one specific RPM in the first 500 miles for initial break in. Iirc it has something to do with seating the rings. Not sure if that applies to other parts though...
