Default I need some advice before i go to a mechanic to wast money

My jeep just recently started reading 40 psi when not running in auxiliary mode and maxes out the gauge when i turn it on... what is causing the problem i heard that this happens in jeeps often where is the sensor located ?

So umm doese it look like this in my 2000 ?

Assuming you don't have a more serious problem the oil pressure sending unit is screwed into the bottom of the distributor housing and has a single wire plug going to it. Yes that`s it in your photo.

Motor sounds great at the moment, its probably a sensor or gauge issue since my gauge is at 40 psi when its not even running i just dont know what the exact problem is

buy a $7 socket, and a $10 sensor, change it. I bet that'll fix it.

You have a gauge so make sure you get the sensor that works with the gauge and not the " idiot light " sensor.

If you get an oil sender for a light and have a gauge, when you turn the key on, the gauge will peg at 80.
