yes, you should be able to just crack the cases and swap out inputs. but you have to remove the front yoke first.

at least to swap a 231/242 into a zj with a 249 that's all you do. so it should work in your case too.

put the guts from the 87 case into your old case.

sell me or someone the 242.

the 242 won't shift right, because you don't have the right shifter handle for it, and you've got the wrong shifter arm on it because yours didn't come out of a base cherokee

can you buy a input gear to swap out the 21spline in a np231 to a 23spline?
