I have been having to pull the column lever (it's in park) toward me to get my 00 XJ to start. If I just try to turn the key, nothing happens. I have to apply pressure on the column stick. I'm assuming it's an electrical issue but no idea were to start.

Anyone have any ideas?

 

For me, you'll need to post a picture of what you're talking about. Because I've never seen a column shifter on a '00 XJ.

Police package option? Is there an extended idle switch too? Probably a park interlock switch in the column somewhere.

 

old 90 cherokee i had a floor shifter i would have to pull it back to get it to start... it was the NSS

 

Perhaps it is the center column he is referring to?

 

As in "Center Console".

 

Yeahh sorry I'm not familiar with the lingo haha. When it's in park, I have to pull and hold pressure for the starter to turn.

 

Much clearer now.
Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) is out of adjustment or dirty.
