ok guys my first question i have is for my 96 xj. sometimes when i take off it seems as if im taking off in a high gear. its sluggish and then once it shifts its fine. like i said it only does it once in a while. could it be the transmission control moduel?. it just started doing this today. also sometimes when i start it i have to pump the gas to get it to start. it just started doing both of these?

second question is on my 95 xj the gas guage and the speedo dont work do you think its just the guage cluster? and if it is what years cluster can be put in?

For the sluggish start, check the TCM and also the tranny cable. The cables sometimes need to get tightened after years of use.
If you're having to pump the gas to get it to keep running after starting it, it could be the battery, alternator, or both. Have both checked for free at a local part store. I had the same issue and it was both my alt and battery going bad.
For the gauges it could be a connection at the gauges themselves. Pull the cluster and check your connections. If they're bad, check a JY for a new cluster. I'm pretty sure a 93-96 cluster will work if you need a different one.

 

You cps could be going out for the starting problem
