Default I dont know what im going to do, might have to sell the jeep

Well my 5 speed is screwed, it whines like a ***** and gets hot, very hot, wont go into 3rd or 4th about 30% of the time. i asked how much for a rebuild they guy told me that it would be cheaper to swap in the ax15 for $1500 due to me haveing the ****y ba10. well i cant afford that and my parents say sell it and get a reliable car. There is no way in hell i can get near enough from my jeep for that. How hard is it to do the switch myself if found a ax15 with an internal slave?

if your good with cars it would take only a day if you have everything you need to swap it.. maybe time for a new clutch too while your down there

Its really not that hard with a couple of guys and a jack and a decent selection of tools. Should only take a day. 2 max. There are 2 bell housing bolts that are external torx so make sure you have a selection of those sockets. And like parkerbabco said, if you're already in there, replace the clutch (probably already have to due to different trannys) and maybe the slave. It would suck to have to pull it all apart again if the slave goes a couple weeks after the swap.

Maybe someone who lives in washington might be up for helping you with the swap. I'd help but you live way to far away..

*from what I've read* the internal slave is an easier swap but if you ever need to work on/replace your slave cylinder the external is easier to get to.

Where at in washington are you? I'm in hermiston

where in washington are you? i am in tri citys and have had my tranny in and out (by myself) in about 4 hours, getting it out isnt a problem, its getting it in and lining up the teeth thats a pain... i dont think it helps, but i have a 5spd out of an 85 that i would give you for 100 bucks worked great till the motor snapped the crankshaft. let me know if you are semi close and id be willing to come help you out
