Makes sense, Thanks for the explanations

But yea I would imagine the hot condenser right behind(in front?)
the already hot radiator isnt helping much.

OK, let me see if I can answer or address everyone in one post, on my phone. Lol.

I do not have factory gauges, only warning lights, so I have idea what is "in the red" when it comes to temp, so when I see it climb to 230° I start getting worried. I'm not real sure if it would climb higher, as I will turn the heater on to drop the temp.

The factory temp sensor seems to be accurate, as it will turn the fan on at 210 or 220, I can't remember.

I'm not running a cooler thermostat, the ecm is programmed for 190 and I'm sticking with it. A cooler thermostat will only decrease my fuel mileage.

I think the condenser has something to do with it, and I also think having the tranny fluid run through the radiator has something to do with it.

May I ask where it says the ECM is programmed for 190? Your XJ is OBD-II.

He's running triple efans.

Are you running 33's on stock gearing? If so that could cause the trans to be dumping heat into the radiator while on the trail and cause the temps to rise.

Wow howd I miss that id throw them out and return to stock a lot of people have issues with that set up it seems like more fans don't necessarily mean more air.

After re-reading the 1st post, I'm wondering if the fan clutch crapped out while the stock fan set-up was still in........and the efan conversion just went from bad to worse.

I think you're right. I think I'm going to get an Efan from a 97+ and run two stock electrics with a toggle switch override.

Fan clutch was replaced when I replaced the head gasket. Just thought I would try the triple fan conversion to, 1. save a little fuel from removing the mechanical fan, and 2. gain better cooling with more cfm of air moving across the radiator. I think these fans are just cheap and don't really pull/push as much as advertised. It was about $65 for all three.

Personally I'd suggest going back to the OEM setup.

+2, and with a good fan clutch the belt fan will move way more air than the OE efan at just above idle when the clutch senses that it needs to.

If your transmission is running hot enough to heat the coolant up to 230 deg, you have another problem besides cooling. 230 is the upper limit for trans fluid before it starts to degrade and you'd have to be running well above that to have noticeable effect on the coolant temps. I suspect the opposite is happening- the trans 'cooler' is probably heating the fluid instead of cooling it.

I think I'm going to get an Efan from a 97+ and run two stock electrics with a toggle switch override.
Don't do that. The e-fan doesn't have anywhere near the capacity of the OEM mechanical fan. Put the mechanical fan (and shroud) back and see where your temps run. If they're normal, you found the issue. If you still run hot there's a problem besides the fans.
