Backstory: Bought Tina the Tank last April, replaced starter out the gate. Knew it didn't have heat or AC when I bought it. Tried to get the heat going in Dec. 2024 by replacing the heater core. That turned into a full meltdown and it's been hell ever since. Got it back from heater core replacement and the engine overheated. Replaced the entire coolant system after that, heater core, AC system, radiator, thermostat, and every tube/hose in between. That worked until I hit a gnarly pothole and then it all overheated again. Turns out engine had a cracked head. Machined it down, and everything was fine again for about 3 months. One day it overheats again for no apparent reason this May and it hasn't been running since. Ended up completely replacing engine with another 4.0 from a 96 manual, flipped everything to fit into my automatic. Finally got her back, it immediately died again. Battery was dead, replaced battery, then it started stalling out after I'd turn her on once I put it in reverse. Then it would do it every few times I drove it, but now it just stalls out as soon as you turn it on. Tested battery and everything seems fine there. But I've replaced almost every single major system under the hood at this point. I really don't want to give up on her but she's giving me a run for my money (literally now as I walk to work). Open to any and every suggestion you can throw at me.

 

Check for a vacuum leak, especially the brake booster hose. Also, test your crankshaft position sensor. Those are common culprits for immediate stalling.

 

Does it only stall when at idle or completely die out after starting. Do you have any codes?

 

Just replaced the TPS too, that didn't change much. Looking into vacuum leak/ fuel pump today
