Humming noise.....

Humming noise.....
On my 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport, 88k, around 45mph-60mph there is a humming noise. It is not when accelerating, but only when slight pressure on the accelerator must be used to maintain speed.
We changed the rear end fluid, no luck. Any idea's on fixing this problem? What else might it be?
The muffler has some rotted through spots on the seam, but I don't think thats what the noise is.
