Question HP-d30 Chromo shaft reviews...

((Re-done-thread title))
-Gettin straght to the point, i did some searchin but couldnt find what i was lookin for & decided to just ask all of you!! My question is, id like to hear from those guys runnin 4340 chromo shafts in ur HP-d30s, either in 27spl OR 30splines, how they performed, ur experience with them??? The basis for this thread is to find out how those chromo shafts are holdin up in the "real world!!"

-Include things like what u have into ur HP-d30; ur drivin style; tire size; how happy u are with the brand ur runnin; there customer service; & if uve broken a chromo shaft then how did they honor there warrantees, etc, etc...

THANX!!!!

thats a lot of money to throw into that 30, what size tire are you running? in my opinion i would look and upgrading to a 44 and build that up you will be stronger and not have to worrie about breaking the R&P

My only advice is to make sure and gusset your C's when you make your truss. But... They make 5 on 4.5" axle shafts for a D44.

It does sound like you got a good plan. And the D30 is a bit under rated by people. You will be fine.

Question 30spl Chromo Hubs Question...

-Has anyone used or know of someone who has used these; http://www.quadratec.com/products/16120_500_07.htm?? There full chromo 30spl hubs & come with the 30spl stubs & u-joints. Alls id need would be 30spl inner shafts & the 30spl Eaton e-locker!!

-Im sure someone will say its too much $$ to dump into a d30, BUT im not goin any higher then my 35"s or my 6.5" lift!! I wheel mostly moderate trails, so it sorta works for me. REMEMBER, im askin ONLY for feedback for these hubs from people who bought & ran these & nothin else!!!!

Thanks,
SeniorXJ

Curious too. I kinda wanna keep my D30 as well. (same lift/tire size as OP)

I've definitely thought about it and priced out these kits, it'd be cool & different running a built stock axle vs. the same typical drop in everyone else does.

Subscribed.

I have a friend (cherokeefever) who runs a dana 30 with chromo shafts, 35x13.5 Toyo M/T tires, and a lockright. We wheel some pretty tough trails and have to get on the skinny pedal pretty hard sometimes. He used to break stock shafts regularly, but has not broken any since he went chromo. Those Toyos are pretty heavy and that does make a difference. I run 35x12.5 Cooper Discoverer STTs with a lockright and stock shafts and I have yet to break a shaft. I always carry spare shafts and when I do finally break one will probably switch to chromo, but so far so good. I think the Dana 30 is a stronger axle than some people think.

considering that a D30 is about the smallest AND weakest solid front axle you can get without going to Zuk or Yota axles its pretty low on the strength pyramid.

I believe he is running 4.56 gears. He said that he never broke any stock shafts until he re-geared. That is why I decided to take my chances with stock axles and gears with my locked Dana 30.

Regardless of where it is at on the strength pyramid in my experience it does not break nearly as easy as some people claim it does.
